Note: Over the next months I’ll be posting interviews with a number of key members of the Cicero team here and on my LinkedIn account. Stay tuned!
What brought you to Cicero Group?
After working to improve student success within several schools as a classroom teacher and instructional coach; I was excited for the opportunity to positively impact teachers and students through the use of evidence-based instructional practices on a larger scale. By joining the Ed Direction team, I was given this opportunity along with the opportunity to be challenged and grow as an educator.
What kind of projects are you working on right now?
I am currently working on a large school turnaround project. Ed Direction is partnered with the Utah State Office of Education (USOE) on their Turnaround initiative. Through this project we are providing Utah’s lowest performing schools with coaching and professional development to increase student success through the use of evidence-based instructional practices. We have completed needs assessments and created improvement plans for twelve Utah schools. For the next two and a half years, Ed Direction will work hand in hand with these twelve schools to provide partnership coaching to teachers, principals, and district employees in order to build capacity within the districts and schools. Using evidence-based instructional strategies and long-, medium-, and short-term data, Ed Direction aims to improve student achievement throughout Utah’s schools. I am also looking forward to assisting Ed Direction on the Assessment to Achievement Project in the near future.
What are you reading?
I am currently re-reading Visible Learning for Teachers and Data Wise. The impact that visible learning and teaching and data analysis has on student’s success is enormous. I refer back to these two books on a regular basis as I work hand in hand with teachers and administrators.
Now, what are you reading for fun?
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.
What is the best part about working at Cicero?
I value being challenged, learning, growing, and working alongside accomplished educators who have the same passion for improving student success. Joining the Ed Direction team has been a priceless opportunity.
If you could help all your clients understand one principle or strategy, what would it be?
Every district, school, and teacher has passion to help all of their students. They each have individual talents and knowledge to help students succeed. I want them all to realize their potential and that increasing student’s success is within their grasp. I would love for all my schools to not only understand, but master the use of evidence-based instructional practices and to consistently use data to drive student progress.
